The roots of Berdick Windows and Doors were planted in the 1960’s, when two entrepreneurs’ by the names of Bert and Dick Guenhiede (Where the “Berdick” name originates from) designed and produced aluminum slider windows out of their garage.
Because of its superior design and demand for aluminum windows; yet another two entrepreneurs (Bruce McVean and Max Branstatter) decided to purchase the company and began manufacturing at a much larger scale in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. From this manufacturing plant, the Berdick Aluminum window system began selling across western Canada. Within this expansive sales territory; it became very clear that there was a need for another manufacturing operation to meet the high demand for Berdick product.
In 1969, to meet the ever-growing demand; a partnership was developed with Mr. Abe Wiebe of Winkler, Manitoba. Following in 1970, the Berdick Windows and Doors manufacturing plant in Winkler, Mb. came to fruition with a total of 6 employees. Under Mr. Wiebes’ leadership; Berdick Windows and Doors began its operations with their primary products being aluminum windows for modular homes and trailer doors for mobile recreational vehicles.
Although manufacturing in Winkler was a huge success for Berdick; times changed and demands changed with them. Due to the increase in fuel costs, the demand for large recreational vehicles declined and along with it was the decline in demand for aluminum windows. However, this did not hinder the successful drive of Berdick Manufacturing; it changed the primary focus of the products manufactured.
In the 1980’s, Berdick ventured into the residential window and door market with its manufacturing focus on PVC windows. Alongside the new PVC windows, was the introduction of insulated steel residential doors; and yet once more, the road to success was clearly paved by Berdick Windows and Doors.
From this point forward, Berdicks success grew in leaps and bounds and because of all his selfless effort and contributions to the business; in mid-1990, Abe Wiebe decided to purchase Berdick Windows and Doors from his business partners and turned it into a family owned business. For almost 20 years, Abe and his family managed Berdick Windows and Doors not only as a continuing successful business venture but as one of the many positive contributing family owned business’ in the community of Winkler.
Once more, change had come upon Berdick Windows and Doors; but yet another positive change. In 2009, Abe Wiebe decided to enjoy the fruits of his labor and Berdick was now under new ownership. This group of new owners saw the positive impact and flourishing business that Abe had created and knew they were the right people to take it further along its road of success.
And now, Berdick is still one of the leading PVC Window and Door manufacturers in the industry today; with quality driven manufacturing, a large investment in people and technology. All of the efforts of our founders and our new leaders have created such positive outcomes as our new design leading Fibreglass Windows and Doors; an increase in knowledge and success for both our customers and the Berdick family.
